Thank God! Call out His Name! Tell the whole world who He is and what He's done! Sing to Him! Play songs for Him! - 1 Chronicles 16:8 The Message
The first thing that David did was identify who/what to be thankful for. David the Psalmist mentions no one specific, but God alone. There's none more deserving of our praise and gratitude! Thank God for His grace, mercy, faithfulness, care and provision that He continues to bless us with.
I love what it says after David identifies who he is giving thanks to, he encourages us to express it and show it in creative ways. He says: Call out... ! Tell the world who He is and what He's done! Sing...! Play...! (notice the exclamation points) Do others around you know the gratitude that you feel? Does it show in our words? Do we speak of their influence in our lives to others? Have I shown it in simple ways or creative ways? (hand written card, simple gift of love, flowers, treat them to lunch or coffee, etc)
Feeling grateful and appreciative is one things... showing it is an entirely different thing. Most people feel grateful, but very few express it. When we feel grateful for someone in our life or what they have done, it does no good if that person doesn't hear it or know it.
This Thanksgiving; or before 2009 comes to an end, take the time identify and express your thankfulness to others. Even better, today identify and express your gratitude to God for all He has done in your life!
